Yes, it’s that time again. Summer is over. For some of the country, fall is here and winter is just around the corner. Now is the perfect time to get your house and your HVAC system prepped for that cold weather!
The heat and rain from the last year have wreaked havoc on your seals – re-caulking your windows and doors will help keep the cold air out and the warm air in. It can also help save up to 20% on your heating bills!
Sealing your air ducts will also help prevent air leaks while increasing comfort. Leaky air ducts are one of the leading causes of inconsistent temperatures in the home. While you’re at it, check your attic insulation. Your climate and location determine the best amount for your house, but your certified ACDoctor contractor will know just the right amount!
Make sure your furnace or heater still works – there’s nothing worse than going to turn it on for that first cold snap of the year and you just can’t get warm! If it doesn’t work, now is the time to start planning replacement! Once your furnace is ready to go, prep your AC. Turn the breaker off, cover the unit, sweep debris away. Just get it ready to sit dormant for a few months.
Most of this prep, you can do yourself. If anything looks like it will be out of your comfort zone – make sure to hire a licensed professional! And always remember – you want to make sure you have a licensed HVAC contractor maintain and repair your system!
